How the energy of the sun supports emotional wellbeing and self-growth
The Summer Solstice is a powerful seasonal moment – not only astronomically, but symbolically and energetically. It marks the longest day of the year, the peak of sunlight and life-force energy. Across cultures, it is celebrated as a time of abundance, light, joy, love, and inner fire.
But what does this cosmic shift mean for our emotional and mental wellbeing? And how can we use this solar energy consciously to nourish our balance and inner life?
What does the Summer Solstice represent?
The height of light and life energy – after which the days slowly begin to shorten. It reminds us of the cyclical nature of life.
A time of fullness – acknowledging the seeds we’ve planted and what is now blooming within us.
A moment of transformation – shifting from outward action to inward reflection.
Emotional Wellbeing and the Solstice Energy
1. Light as a medicine for emotional shadow
More sunlight means more serotonin and endorphins – but symbolic light also helps us see what’s been hidden: emotions, needs, old fears.
Practical support:
Every morning, step outside and lift your face to the light for a few minutes. Breathe deeply and affirm: “I welcome clarity. I allow myself to see and feel fully.”
2. Joy, play and the inner child
Solstice invites us to reconnect with joy, spontaneity and delight – the language of our inner child. It’s not just about ‘doing the work’, but also about embracing the lightness of being alive.
Try this:
Ask yourself: “What would bring my inner child joy today?”
A barefoot walk, wildflowers in your hair, a dance in the kitchen, or simply watching clouds drift – anything that helps you feel open and free.
3. Honouring your personal journeyThe mid-year point is a natural time to reflect:
– What did I plant in the spring – within myself, my life, my healing?
– What is now growing and asking for space to bloom?
– What fruit would I love to harvest in the months ahead?
Self-reflection practice:
Create a list titled “My Inner Harvest” – write down all the things you’ve learned, created, overcome or nourished in yourself since the start of the year.
Light a candle and simply say: “Thank you. I honour this journey.”
Ways to Use the Solstice Energy in Daily Life
1. Fire or light ritual
Fire has long been used in solstice traditions for cleansing and transformation. You can create a simple home ritual:
Example:
Write down what you’re ready to release – e.g. fear of change, guilt, self-doubt.
Then write what you want to embody – e.g. courage, clarity, joy.
Safely burn the “release” note (even in a candle flame), and keep the “invite” note near your heart or altar.
2. Working with the Solar Plexus Chakra
The solar plexus (Manipura) is the chakra of inner strength, personal identity, confidence and self-worth.
When out of balance, it may show up as:
– fear of being seen,
– difficulty asserting boundaries,
– lack of direction or inner power.
Self-empowerment practice:
Stand tall, lift your arms to the sky and say:
“I am light. I stand in my truth. My radiance is my gift.”
3. Nature connection – your living temple of sunlight
You don’t need fancy tools – nature itself holds the medicine. Each ray of sunshine, river dip, barefoot step or breeze is a direct experience of divine energy.
Nature ritual idea:
Go outside – to a meadow, woodland or beach.
Find a sunlit spot and sit in stillness. Whisper:
“I receive the light of life. I open to the strength and softness of nature.”
What truly takes time in building emotional balance?
Peeling back the layers
– Balance isn’t a fixed state – it’s a movement, a rhythm.
– It often takes time to unlearn patterns, release inherited roles and return to your authentic self.
Accepting life’s cycles
– The Solstice reminds us: light doesn’t last forever – and that’s okay.
– You are not meant to be constantly 'high-vibe'. Sometimes balance is allowing yourself to pause and soften.
Letting emotions move in their time
– The nervous system and soul need gentle time to integrate, release and rebuild.
– This season can be a time to slow down enough to listen to what your inner being really needs.
Solstice Affirmations:
My light is my power.
I honour who I am and where I am.
I am allowed to be radiant, joyful and enough.
I trust in my own rhythm.
Even in the unknown, I am held and guided.
